Tokai University, School of Letters, Department of Nordic Studies,Professor Emeritus,
Yasufumi Yamashita

Had taught Swedish language for a long time in Tokai University.Department of Nordic Studies in Tokai University is only one department in Japan which focuses on Nordic Countries as the education and research field. It offers comprehensive study about the languages of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Also students are able to get a whole knowledge on the history, culture, politics and society of Nordic countries through the various opportunities of field work and short stay over there.

After the review of language history and genealogy of Nordic coutries and Sweden, will give an explanation about Swedish literature, especially focused on Nobel laureates in Literature. Sweden, the coutry of Nobel Prize,has turned out 7 laureates (3 novelist, 4 poet, only holders of Swedish Nationality), including Tomas Tranströmer,poet, this year 2011 laureate.Will talk about the detailed characters and stories of each laureate.

Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Graduate School, Division of Fine Arts.Doctor(Fine Arts). Has taught in Tokyo Tech since 2005.Majors in Japanese Art History, especially of Muromachi Era(1392-1573).Received The 7th JSPS Prize from Japan Society of Promotion of Science in Feb.2011.

Among the nordic coutries, we tend to have impression of heavy industry as the image of Sweden.Will survey the characters of Design and Art in Sweden, the mother coutry of SAAB and VOLVO, while comparing to other nordic coutries.

Musical Critic,  Akira Toba
Has continued collection of music disks and appreciation of music concerts as an music admirer.Managing Director of Swedish Center Foundation from 1994 to 2004. At this time, Started the reseach and collection of Swedish classical music disks, generally said to be rare in Japanese market. In 2008, completed his work to publish the book of history of Swedish music and Swedish composers. Has given lectures about magic of Swedish music.

Nyckelharpan i Japan Representative,  Kazuko Kamakura
Nyckelharpan, traditional folk instrument in Sweden, can be played with keyboard set on strings and bow. In Sweden, beginners and masters play, dance and enjoy together in the group.Organized Nyckelharpan i Japan in 2008 to disseminate Nyckelharpan and soul of Swedish folk music as a representative. Has given lessons, summer schools as well as introduces performers from Sweden to Japan.

Akira Toba    Introduction to Swedish Music
Introduce Swedish classical music in chronological order with more than ten disks of songs, strings, piano perfomance, so on.

Kazuko Kamakura    Introduction to Nyckelharpan
Introduce histrory of the Nyckelharpan, relation with other instrumetns and the way of enjoyment with actual performance. Also, several participants have the chance to try playing the Nyckelharpan. Let us have a precious time with the sound of Nyckelharpan like the fresh and heartfelt wind on the lake (quotated form the website of Nyckelharpan i Japan).
